Radomyshl Beer

Radomyshl Beer

The history of Radomyshl beer began in the 19th century, when Europe was going through industrial boom and railway communication was established. It allowed manufacturers to exchange technologies, purchase raw materials and supply their products at large distances.

In 1885, local merchants Albrecht brothers, having assessed the true value of natural properties of local water, decided to open a brewery in Radomyshl.

In 1886, having brought from Europe the latest technologies of beer brewing and samples of barley and hop for growing in local conditions, they put into operation the first line at the plant. At first, the brewery made only classical Czech Pilsner and later began to produce other beer popular in Europe - in particular Viennese, Bock-Beer, Munich. The brewery was developing fast and soon the Czechs also began to brew own, original sorts of beer: Ukrainian, Oksamytne, Bohdanovi Shlyakhy (Bohdan’s Paths), “Volodymyrske Osoblyve” (Volodymyr’s Special). Within the first five years of existence, the brothers launched into production original sorts of beer based on their own recipes. In 1905, beer brewed by Radomyshl Pilsen Brewery was actively imported to Europe. Local beer was popular in many European countries and even in Czech Republic. However, after 1917 revolution and as a result of nationalization of the brewery, all recipes were lost and the fame of Radomyshl beer began to fade.

Having decided to restore with the help of European specialists original recipes of pre-revolution Radomyshl beer, Ridna Marka of Group of Companies conducted full modernization of production in 2005-2006 at the brewery in Radomyshl, Zhytomyr oblast. It installed at the brewery modern equipment, which substantially increased the volumes of production and sales.

Using the sorts of hop and barley brought by Albrecht brothers and successfully growing in local climate, Ridna Marka continued brewing traditions in Radomyshl.

The main idea of present day beer brewing in Radomyshl is preserving the three basic factors of success of local beer in the 19th century, namely:

  • Special barley, hop, water.
  • Exclusively natural process of maturing of beer.
  • No additives.

Ridna Marka brews exclusively pure beer in Radomyshl.the main principle is no additives, aromatizers and preservatives.

Only special sorts of barley, hop and water are used. Actually, there is a unique sort of hop and barley for each sort of beer. Local naturally filtered water is used to give beer special softness and exquisite taste.

It turned out that the soil on which Radomyshl sits contails layers of unique blue clay, which is a very strong natural filter of local artesian water. Such water is not all well purified; it is also live, because it has the natural components, presence of which in distilled water is impossible.

Classical technology of natural maturing of beer used in Radomyshl stipulates full absence of any additives that speed up the process of beer fermentation. The beer matures in natural environment. Such process is longer and does not allow for producing large volumes of the drink, but preserves absolutely all nuances of flavor and aroma of a real classical beer. There are positive and negative sides to such technology. Limited volumes allow for controlling compliance of taste characteristics of products on the level of each lot.

Popular in Europe PET bottles are excellent for preserving beer. Light and convenient for use, it allows to preserve properties of beer after brewing for a long time without adding preservatives that spoil the taste and aroma of beer. In addition to that, the producer is always totally sure of guaranteeing absolute pureness and hygiene of such package unlike the deposit-type bottles.

At the moment, three sorts of hop are used. On the basis of them, classic light barley beer, classic dark barley beer and barley beer of Czech type Pilsner are brewed. Each of the sorts has its own special hop aroma, strength and unique taste balance of the drink.
